What is Technology
We live in Technology Era.
Everything is changing and developing continuously. Thus, computers and smart
phones are the devices that come our mind when we say technology. But,
technology does not only devices which are based on them. There had been
technology even before the computers. It has developed with societies. We can
name many things that ease our lives as technological devices such as steam
engine, telescope, even abacus which are accepted ancestor of computer.
Technology in Education
Technology is used in many areas.
Education is one of them. There are not only online grading systems and online
libraries, but also computers, projectors and tablets in schools now. Teachers
do not have to write something on boards anymore. They are able to do many
things without stand up. Teachers can reach their students even from their
homes.
Mathematics education also benefits
from technology. Teachers are able to prepare lesson materials in shorter time.
There are many software that provide more visual and effective instruction.
Although, avoiding technology is
almost impossible in this era, some people decide to stay away from it. There
are some possible reasons of this. Firstly, keeping up technological
developments requires some efforts. People need to be open for learning
continuously not to fall behind the developments. Another reason may be stereotypes
about technology usage of women. Some people believe that women are not able to
use technology as well as men.
In primary and secondary school
years, my teachers used computers and monitors for only showing some videos and
films about lessons. Nowadays, there are smart boards in all classes my old
school. School uses some books and their computer applications for saving time
and making more exercises. In high school years, my teacher used projectors to
show their subject presentations and some videos. My last year in high school,
we met with smart boards and also used them for lessons.
Self Evaluation
I was one of the people who scared
from the technological improvements short time ago. Computer was familiar to
me, but I used to know a little about it. After I start to university, I have
learned many things about computer and smart phone usage. And I realized why I
sacred technology. People are afraid of what they did not know. After I
witnessed how technology integration in education provides many opportunities,
still avoiding it would be a huge mistake. So, I am going to use it in my job
and keep up with improvements.
Closure
In this assignment, I found the
opportunity to evaluate myself about how much I involved in technology. I think
the purpose of the assignment is that too. I am at the beginning of the road
and I am going to try to learn much more things. Trying to describe technology
was hard, but its usage in education was a subject that we think about many
times. I just wrote down my thoughts.
